Curatorial Statement

The action of reconciling with change, remedying ruptures, metamorphosing discarded materials: to mend. Fading hues, reaching resolve, moving toward new beginnings: to end. This exhibition falls in the middle of tension and tenderness. It lingers between breakage and repair, grief and growth, finality and renewal.

Ode to change: To M(end) mirrors summer fading to its final breath. Sunlight growing slanted and soft, shadows lengthening, the air heavier with memory. Colors move like a wave, bursting in their beginnings, then dwindling to a desaturated end.

Means to an end. From fibers and photography to painting, mixed media, sculpture and print, each artist brings a unique entry point. From the tactile intimacy of stitched textiles to the gravity of ceramic sculptures, these works speak to the many ways we live through loss in our lives and find strength in what endures.

Entering topics of reslience, this exhibition asks what it means to live through loss and still create. It honors the ways we carry memory. It is not just in our minds, but in our bodies, in objects, in rituals, and in our attempts to reshape what once was. To mend is to reengage with what has been unraveled. To end is to acknowledge that some things cannot return. Yet in both is an act of care, a reach for clarity or closure.

Nevertheless, the works gathered here do not rush to resolution. They linger, resisting the pressure to be whole. Each voice, every artwork, is a distinct story. They embrace saturation or lean into the grayscale. They are airy and ambiguous or weighted in symbolism. Sometimes, they are all the above simultaneously. These artists show us that healing is not linear, and these broad definitions vary because of our own lived experiences.

Discard or cherish? What we shed, what we stitch back together, and what we allow to remain undone is in close observation. It is an exhibition about endings, yes, but also about what it means to begin again.
